Installing SPSS 14.0 on Windows

Before you install SPSS 14.0 for Windows, you must send an email to software@chmcc.org with the following information:

department
budget number
business director's name
software requested
operating system (Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP)
asset tag for the machine on which the software will be installed (for example, P03-9999)
detailed description of how you intend to use the software

Once Biomedical Informatics processes your request, you will be sent the SPSS serial number and authorization code. Once you receive this information, you can install SPSS 14.0 by completing the following tasks:

Opening the SPSS installer
Running the SPSS installer
Running the license authorization wizard
Running the SPSS SmartViewer installer

Opening the SPSS installer

1. Log in to the research software server.

2. Double-click the pc software folder:

3. Double-click the SPSS folder:

4. Double-click the SPSS 14 folder:

5. Double-click the spss 14 folder:

6. Double click the setup.exe file:

The SPSS installer screen appears:

Note:
If the installer screen doesn't appear, map the research software server to your PC and try opening the installer again.

Running the SPSS installer

1. In the SPSS installer screen, click Install SPSS:

2. At the welcome screen, click Site license, and then click Next:

3. Read the license agreement, click I accept, and then click Next:

4. Browse the ReadMe file if you wish, and click Next:

5. For User Name type your name, and for Organization, type CCHMC.

6. For Serial Number, type the number that was emailed to you from Biomedical Informatics.

Note
The number emailed to you may contain spaces so that it is easier to read, but these spaces are not part of the actual serial number.

7. Click Next:

8. Accept the default destination folder by clicking Next:

9. If a previous version of SPSS is on your machine and you receive a message that this version must be uninstalled, click OK:

10. To begin the installation, click Install:

This screen appears, indicating the progress of your installation:

11. Select the License SPSS 14.0 for Windows now check box.

12. Clear the Register product online check box.

Note:
SPSS already has been registered.

13. Click OK:

The license authorization wizard launches.

Running the license authorization wizard

1. Click Start:

2. Click Use Authorization via Internet to get License, and then click Next:

3. Type the Authorization Code emailed to you by Biomedical Informatics, and click Next:

The following screen appears, indicating that the authorization is in progress:

4. To complete the license authorization, click Finish:

Running the SPSS SmartViewer Installer

1. In the SPSS installer window, click Install SmartViewer:

2. Click Site license, and then click Next:

3. Read the license agreement if you wish, click I accept, and then click Next:

4. Browse the ReadMe information if you wish, and click Next:

5. For User Name type your name, and for Organization, type CCHMC.

6. Click Next:

7. Accept the default destination folder by clicking Next:

8. To begin the installation, click Install:

This screen appears, indicating the progress of the installation:

9. Select the License SPSS SmartViewer 14.0 now check box.

10. Clear the Register product online check box.

Note:
SmartViewer already has been registered.

11. Click OK:

12. Activate SmartViewer 14.0 by following the same steps and entering the same authorization code as you did when activating SPSS 14.0. See Running the license authorization wizard for detailed instructions.
